Classes

The Music Department at Fairview offers a wide variety of programs to students grades K-12:

Elementary Music:
All students grades K-5 have music classes 2-3 times per week. We sing, dance, play instruments, and learn some basic music theory concepts to prepare students for choir and band.

Choir:
Middle and high schoolers have the opportunity to join Choir. This year, it is a combined Middle and High School Choir that meets during 1st hour. We perform several times per year, at our standard quarterly concerts and other community events, like at the Fairview Christmas Tree Lighting.

Middle School Band:
Students in our Middle School Band have the opportunity to play on a wide variety of concert band instruments, including flutes, clarinets, saxophones, trumpets, horns, trombones, euphoniums, tubas, and percussion. Most of these instruments were obtained through generous instrument donations from the community.

 High School Percussion Ensemble:
Instead of a concert band, this year the high schoolers are performing advanced music in a percussion ensemble, including instruments like drums, cymbals, and mallet instruments.

Cool Things We’re Doing!
– On January 31, the FAS Choir will be performing the National Anthem before a series of basketball games at Kirtland Community College.

– Every marking period, all of the middle and high school students in music classes and a couple of the elementary classes join together to put on a concert. Our last holiday concert had over 300 people in attendance!
Holiday Concert– Before our Holiday Concert, Ms. Stone helped us put on a bake sale. This raised a lot of money for our program and allowed us to purchase new music for the bands and choirs as well as some daily supplies (like reeds and valve oil). Thanks Ms. Stone!
Holiday Concert at school– The 5th grade class went over to Wellspring shortly before winter break and performed a number of holiday selections for the residents.
Wellspring Concert– On December 1, the Choir had a chilly but fun evening caroling at the businesses downtown after the Fairview Christmas Tree Lighting.

– Each year on Veterans Day, the school puts on a Veterans Day Luncheon. This event celebrates our veterans with food, community speakers, and music provided by the Fairview students.

– The elementary kids enjoy the high schooler’s lunchtime rehearsals in the Multi-Purpose Room!
Lunch time rehersals– Happy Halloween from the Music Room!

Forms & Information

Last year, we started an instrument drive for people to donate musical instruments that they are no longer using to our growing band program. Over the course of last year, we grew our instrument collection from 5 instruments up to 40. If you would like to donate an instrument, check out the information here:

There are always a ton of events happening with the music program: check out our calendar for the full list.

Fairview has a long tradition of putting on musical theater productions – while we haven’t done so in the last few years, check out the list of productions that we’ve put on before!
