Update on the Fairview Area School (FAS) Superintendent Search process (August 3, 2022)

Dear FAS Staff and Community,

We would like to provide you with an update on the Fairview Area School (FAS) Superintendent Search process.

The Board has decided to hire Jim Gendernalik to act as Interim Superintendent beginning August 9 until a permanent replacement can be found. Jim brings over 30 years of experience in Education, including
teaching, counseling, and administration. We believe Jim will be a great asset to our Fairview community and that the kids will love seeing “Mr. G” in Maroon and Gold rooting for the Eagles! Please help us in welcoming Mr. Gendernalik to the Fairview family.

A special thanks to Mr. Shawn Petri for providing his services as Acting Superintendent for the past several weeks. Shawn did an amazing job to keep our district running smoothly during the transition to an Interim
Superintendent while still fulfilling his responsibilities as Superintendent of C.O.O.R. ISD, and running a campaign for state representative. Mr. Petri will continue to provide support as needed.

The Board continues to meet with Mr. Dave Moore, Search Consultant from MASB. Work sessions will continue throughout the fall with first-round Superintendent interviews tentatively scheduled for the first week
of November. Our goal is to have the new Superintendent in place by January 1, 2023.

Interview teams are continuing to hold interviews for teachers and staff. Several new staff members will be approved at next week’s meeting of the Board of Education. We are very close to having all available positions
filled and are confident that all grades and positions will be in place by the first day of school. Please remember to join us for the Open House on August 22 to meet all the great new teachers and staff.

Thank you to all who voted in favor of our Sinking Fund millage renewal on August 2. Your generosity will continue to provide us with a dedicated source of funding for facility repairs and upgrades. This past year our
sinking fund made possible several projects including the installation of safety rails on the gym bleachers, repairs to the septic system, the installation of a new swing gate to allow easier access to the athletic field, and the replacement of several classroom heaters. Three exciting projects were completed this summer including repairs to the parking lot to complement the new Fairview sidewalks, a complete resurfacing of the FAS
athletic track as well as sanding and refinishing the gym floor. Thank you again for your continued support!

Be sure to listen for our Schools of Choice radio ad on the Carroll Broadcasting Network, which includes HITS FM (94.9 FM & 103.3 FM) & WKJC FM (104.7 FM) & The Point (106.1 FM) & WIOS (1480 AM & 106.9
FM). We hope this advertising campaign will help draw more students and families to the district.

We look forward to a successful year ahead and will continue to keep the public updated.
